Newborn Pictures and How to Plan for Them

Looking to schedule newborn pictures?  I’d love to help!  There is no better way to celebrate the gift of life than with a newborn photography session!  Newborn pictures document your journey, preserve your memories, and leave you with beautiful images for years to come.  Planning for newborn pictures can feel overwhelming, but it shouldn’t be!  Here are a few tips to help make the planning process easy and fun.

Tips to Ensure that you Have the Ultimate Newborn Experience

Scheduling is key!  Newborn pictures are best when booked within the first 2 weeks of birth.  New babies grow and change fast!  Scheduling your session early ensures that “Fresh newborn” look is captured while your baby is still tiny and new.

What to Expect

My newborn sessions are lifestyle photography sessions in the comfort of your own home.  Lifestyle sessions are more candid, casual, and natural.  This type of newborn photography not only captures emotion, but it documents all of the sweet little details that come along with having a new baby; your nursery, family bonding, heirloom items, the things that make your growing family uniquely you!

What to Wear for Newborn Pictures

Think about where you want to display your pictures in your home.  Pick outfits for your family that compliment your color palette.  When in doubt, stick to neutrals.  Neutrals photograph beautifully and timeless.

I have a variety of newborn wraps that I bring for you to use during your newborn session.  Nothing else is needed for your baby, unless you have a specific outfit/ heirloom item that you want them to be photographed in.

When booking a newborn session with me, I offer a free consult to help guide you along the way as you begin to plan.

The Day of Your Newborn Pictures

Newborn pictures should be fun and stress free.  Here are a few tips that can help us both to accomplish this the day of your session:

  • Feed your baby a few minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time.  A full baby is a happy baby!
  • Have a small snack/meal right before your session.  This is especially important for nursing mothers and younger siblings.
  • Make sure that your living area, nursery, and master bedroom are picked up and tidy.  These are often spaces that are used during newborn sessions.
  • Have all outfits, shoes, and accessories laid out, ironed/steamed, and ready the night before.
  • Don’t stress!  Photographs are about preserving memories, not perfection.
  • Above all, breathe and enjoy the moment!
